The tip of my head itches (2022)

A live drawing of an intrusive church.

video by Hester van Tongerloo

During a residency at Destination Unknown, I explored how to capture the atmosphere of the Heilig Hartkerk (Venlo) by drawing in the here and now. I continued this quest during the public exhibition, by making a live drawing in charcoal and white chalk on a platform that previously held the pews. I invited the public to become a witness and sparring partner of my process.

'I want to disappear into the grooves of the building,

hide in the corners,

be one with the wall, floor - or under the floor,

carry the building or just be carried, be one with the structure,

I am enclosed and I am the enclosure.

The tip of my head itches.'

I also exhibited drawings I made during the residency, trying to capture the intangible and intrusive feeling I got in the church.
