About the event
“Schoonheid” (Beauty) is the first solo exhibition of the work of Venlo-born photographer Machteld Schoep (1962 - 2019). The exhibition shows more than 75 photographs from the oeuvre of a photographer with a special sense of humor and an eye for the beauty of the everyday. Museum van Bommel van Dam asked artist Rosa Vrij to respond to Machteld Schoep's work. The artist started from the question whether a space can house memories. In Machteld Schoep's photographs, she saw objects and signs in which human action is still visible. She collected these objects, which form the basis for a new video work. In it, Vrij reflects on space as an extension of ourselves, in which memories are stored and forgotten. Her participation in this project was made possible by and in collaboration with euregional partner Borderland Residencies.
